Mid-19th century, octavo sized, all-white lace paper valentine manufactured by the Wood company, one of the finest makers of lace paper at the time. The card depicts cherubs cavorting among lilies of the valley bending into the shape of a heart. As always, I’m impressed by the level of fine detail they were able to achieve with the die cutting & embossing. The card is blank inside & has a few condition issues: There is a small break in the lace paper, which is only noticeable when the card is opened. The top right corner is chipped; minor edge loss at the top, & a short tear about 1 cm at the top right. Offered at a low price, as is. Overall, none of these flaws is conspicuous & would be near-imperceptible if the piece were framed.
