A sweetheart token and treasure.
A circa 1904 Chester hallmarked English sterling silver Mizpah heart brooch with the token Mizpah held in the center and the heart border being engraved with the text “The Lord watch between me & thee when we are absent one from another”.
Mizpah is the Hebrew word interpreted as 'May God watch over you' and was a popular Victorian sentiment for sweetheart jewellery.
The Etruscan styled heart brooch is further decorated with ivy leaves (symbolic for everlasting love) and forget me not blooms (undying love, fidelity).
It is simply gorgeous and in exceptional antique condition.
Dimensions: 361mm high x 27mm wide.
