Loquat Tree - ‘Nagasakiwase’ variety, grafted tree approx 1m high and will start to fruit in 1-2 years. The loquat have similar taste and flavor as that of apples; tart, and sweet with a pleasant aroma. However, they are soft and juicy in texture like an apricot, instead of crispy as in apples.
The tree grows approx 5m high and produces large crops of fruit in Autumn. Grows well in subtropical and temperate regions. Very popular in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Japan.
The best Japanese variety so far, it has deep orange flesh, high flesh/seed ratio and very sweet flavour. Earliest variety to ripen. Thinning fruit will enhance fruit size. The Nagasakiwase often has 2 crops a year in the subtropics. The first crop in April / May then again in August. We have found by cincturing in summer, the August crop has a much larger crop and better fruit size.
