The CGS Large Spider gives you flexible control over where your cooking surface sits—either atop the fire ring for everyday grilling or inside the fire ring for intense, high-heat searing.
Use the Spider 2.0 top ring to easily lift grids in and out, or drop a smaller grid inside the fire ring for serious direct heat closer to the coals.
Use the Original 3 or 5 Leg Spider to drop inside the Fire Ring.
All Large Spiders work with:
For cast iron, we recommend the full round cast iron grid as a better value and simpler setup compared to using the two half-moon cast iron grids.

The built-in handles on the Spider 2.0 are a game-changer—making it easy to lift grids in and out and giving you fast access to the fire during a cook.

Pro Tip — Reverse Sear: Build your fire on one side. Start your cook on the indirect side, then move over the fire to finish with a sear. Ideal for one or two steaks.
Note: Large half-moon cast iron griddles do not fit the Spider 2.0 top ring—the shorter diameter can fall through.
The Spider’s lower ring drops roughly halfway into the fire ring—creating a high-heat “drop zone” for searing, blackening, or fast grilling.
This position puts your cooking surface closer to the lump, delivering higher temperatures with less fuel.
For stainless, we recommend our 14.5" Super Heavy-Duty Stainless Searing Grid, built with 5/16" thick crosswire for a deep, steakhouse-style sear.

For cast iron, use the 13" grid (MiniMax/Small EGG size), or the Large Big Green Egg plancha griddle for blackening.

Grids that sit on top of the fire ring will not fit inside it. For inside placement, stay between 12" and 14.5" in diameter.
Round grids fit best. Rectangular or square pieces can be more difficult to position inside the circular opening.
